Digestive system
* The body of a sycon is protected and guided by a series of canals. The body wall is made up of two cellular layers. In between those two layers is a gelatine like layer. Water enters the body through the minute dermal ostia and enters the incurrent canals and then it passes through the proslopyles to enter into the radial canals. Next, the radial canals communicate with the apoyles which ultimately open into the body cavity which is designated as the spongocoel. The sobgocoel finally communicates with the osculum for passage of water to the outside. The rate of water flow in the canal system is .01 mm per second.
